陳怡雯 (Yi Wen Chen);呂宛蓁 (Wan-Chen Lu)

Introduction: This research applied the career construction model of adaptation as a framework to investigate the relationship between focus on opportunities, segmentation preference, career adaptability, and career planning among college student-athletes. The participants of this research were open-division college student-athletes in Taiwan. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey, and a total of 350 valid questionnaires were collected. Descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation analysis and multiple hierarchical regression are conducted for data analysis. The results of the research demonstrated that: (1) Focus on opportunities positively impacts the career planning of college student-athletes. When student-athletes have a higher level of focus on opportunities, the higher the level of their career planning. (2) Career adaptability can mediate the relationship between focus on opportunities and career planning of college student-athletes. When student-athletes have a higher degree of focus on opportunities, it helps to improve their career adaptability and leads to better career planning. (3) Segmentation preference can moderate the relationship between focus on opportunities and career planning. When student-athletes have lower segmentation preference, the relationship between focus on opportunities and career planning is stronger. (4) Segmentation preference can moderate the relationship between focus on opportunities, career adaptability, and career planning. When college student-athletes have a lower level of segmentation preference, the mediating context of career adaptability is enhanced. In terms of practical suggestions, colleges can set up internship sessions for their student-athletes in order to let them understand various workplace environments, improve their career adaptability and develop clearer career planning.
